Mead bubbling away

In addition to the IPA, we also tried brewing a mead (honey wine) this weekend.  Here it is in he carboy, bubbling away.

If anything, its going stronger now (6 days later) than when I took the video!

Last week, I brewed a beer, a Chocolate Stout Ale, that was a Christmas present from my sister-in-law and her boyfriend (thanks Melissa and Brian!).  It was my fifth home-brewed beer. After completing the brewing steps and the ensuing cleanup, I was caught off-guard by… my feelings(!?!!).  I enjoyed brewing so much, I wanted to make another beer immediately.  After putting the stout away in the fermenter, I was browsing around the internet looking at beer-related videos, and I came across this Don Osborn video describing easy “all grain” brewing, using a standard rectangular cooler and a few inexpensive parts. I had always heard that all-grain  was hard, but Don’s video made the process look easy enough.  I had to do this.  Using directions from Don’s website, I built my mash tun for about 30 bucks.  The suggestion to use a bottling bucket spigot (which I happened to have lying around) for a drain valve, came from Mike Dixon’s similarly helpful tutorial.
